Rising food prices ‘could cause more wage strikes’

WAGE strikes could intensify due to high food prices, and rising inflation and interest rates that are eroding the buying power of consumers, the Pietermaritzburg Agency for Community Social Action (Pacsa) warned on Monday.

South Africa has just emerged from its longest wage strike at platinum mines that ended last month. It lasted five months and was immediately followed by another one in the steel and engineering sector.
