Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi has announced an update to the National Minimum Wage, increasing it from R25.42 to R27.58 per ordinary hour worked. Effective from March 1, 2024, this adjustment aims to ensure fair compensation for all workers. Notably, the revised minimum wage also extends to vulnerable sectors such as farm workers and domestic workers, aligning with national standards since 2022.
To provide deeper insights into this development, we’re honored to have Isobel Frye, the esteemed founder and executive director of the Social Policy Initiative (SPI), joining us.
