New calls for the basic income grant – Cape Talk radio
“I think it is fair to say now before ever there are signals that the basic income grant is being considered by government.” – Isobel Frye
John Maytham of Cape Talk radio, the Afternoon Drive, asked the important questions, to which Isobel responded with saying that now is the time we need to look at the obstacles, and that we have a “traumatised” nation, Isobel highlighted that 43% of the country is unemployed, with 33 million people facing hunger.
Isobel mentions that a basic income grant is a signal of saving the future that the penurious are afraid of, she calls attention to rebuilding trust in the government.
“It is the only responsible thing the government can do,” Frye adds.
Paraphrasing Isobel, we need to look at the state of things as rebirth instead of panic, and we need to look at unorthodox theories. We need to look at new ideas. We should be coming up with solutions.
“I don’t think we have the capacity to not do it, it is too dire.” – Frye concludes.
