Institution of Parliament ‘is damaged’

THE debacle in the National Assembly last Thursday, when Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MPs were ordered from the house and they refused to obey the speaker’s instruction, has raised more questions than answers about the damage done to South Africa’s democracy.

There is an emerging consensus among independent observers of Parliament that the blame lies in many quarters, and not solely with the red-clad EFF.
